Shortbread by Kids for Christmas

This is a beautiful shortbread recipe that kids can make. It is popular for Christmas but is enjoyed at almost every occasion.  4 ingredients and a little adult supervision. And like everything in the kitchen and food preparation, there is ample opportunity for teaching and learning.

Preparation time:    45 minutes (15 to 20 minutes for baking)
Makes                      8 to 10 biscuits
How to serve:         How you like it - with a glass of milk and fresh fruit.

Shortbread Cookies


Shopping List:

60 grams plain flour

40 grams butter
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
20 grams caster sugar

Your kids can decorate with glazed cherries, snowflakes, sprinkles or
icing


How to Prepare:

1. Put the flour and butter in a bowl and mix
2.  Add the vanilla extract and mix in the caster sugar
3.  Sprinkle some flour on a clean surface and roll the dough

4.   Cut the dough into shapes

5.    Place the cookies on a baking tray and put in a preheated oven of about 160C for about 15 to 20 minutes

Teaching Notes:
1. Where does shortbread come from?
Shortbread is centuries old and made popular in England, most probably during the Elizabeth Times. It was popular during Christmas times but now is made for all occasions.
